Bendtner Still Holds Some Interest

Despite being released by the Gunners, Nicklas Bendtner might continue playing in the Premier League as according to some reports, Burnley, one of the three teams which have been promoted to tier 1, is keen to secure the services of the 26 year old striker.

Bendtner spent a total of 9 years at the Emirates stadium, but, he played only 100 odd games in that duration. He never quite became a regular in the Gunners starting XI. Even during the last season, he played only when the team management decided to rest Olivier Giroud, otherwise, he was mostly warming the bench.

So, it didn’t surprise people when Arsenal decided to get rid of the Danish player at the end of the last season. They had hardly any reason to give him a contract extension.

There have been quite a few clubs including Rubin Kazan and Fulham which have shown their interest in Bendtner.

However, Bendtner himself, a few days ago, had said that he would be happy to go away from England if he gets a good deal.

The striker said, “I have got a strong liking for Italy. The Bundesliga is good too. Bayern Munich is dominating there at the moment, but, there are some teams which can challenge them. So, I won’t mind going to these two countries. But, hey look, I am not going to prefer a certain place. I just want a club where I am given playing time on a regular basis.”

The above statements don’t suggest that Bendtner is stubborn about leaving England. He is keeping his options open.

The reason why Burnley needs somebody like Bendtner is that their main striking option Sam Vokes is going to be unavailable for the earlier parts of the next season due to injury. So, they want a like-for-like replacement.
