Nicolas Bendtner career has turned out into a major disappointment and he has come a long way from his days of being recognised as a talented young striker while at Arsenal.
After his stint with various clubs like Juventus, Arsenal, Sunderland, and Birmingham City, he has just been released by German outfit Wolfsburg after failing to hold on a first-team spot at the club. Bendtner has always been known as a confident striker, but his confidence has sometimes turned into arrogance. It has let him down more often than not, but there remains a goalscorer within the player.
This quality seems to have attracted MLS outfit Atalanta United, who are the latest expansion team. The MLS is planning to expand the number of times to 24. The recent editions of clubs like Orlando City and New York City FC has added a lot of attraction and competition in the 2016 season. Atlanta United will be joining the league at a time when a number of stars are already dominating the games. The likes of Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, David Villa, and Kaka have joined the league in recent seasons. Bendtner might seem like an attractive prospect for the new club since there is no transfer fee involved. The player is available on a free transfer after having decided not to extend his contract with Wolfsburg.
At 28 years of age, he has time on his side and could mature with age. However, he has had numerous off the field issues at each and every one of his previous clubs. This could be a source of worry for Atalanta United, but they might just take the gamble since it will not cost them any significant funds. The MLS allows three players without any wage limits and they form part of the designated player category.
