Nicklas Bendtner

Controversial Danish striker NicklasBendtner has announced his retirement after almost two decades as a professional footballer. NicklasBendtner revealed his decision to retire from football at age of 33 earlier this month.

Bendtner said he will spend a lot of time reflecting on the fact that his football career is now over while announcing his retirement. The former Arsenal and Juventus player also said he would find something else that gives him what football has given him over the years. He went on to reveal his plans of becoming a coach. According to him, he's in the process of taking the coaching education.

NicklasBendtneralso featured for clubs like Sunderland and Birmingham City during his playing career. He scored 30 goals for Denmark in 81 games over a 12-year period.

The Danish player was renowned for his self-confidence during his football career though his output on the pitch didn't match the words from him a lot of times. He was a controversial player as highlighted by his decision to celebrate a goal at Euro 2012 by dropping his shorts to reveal an advertisement –a pair of Paddy Power underpants.

NicklasBendtner was later fined to the tune of €80,000 by European football's governing body UEFA for his action in celebrating the goal he scored.

Bendtner once talked up his football capabilities as he said that he wants to be the topscorer in the Premier League and at the FIFA World Cup in the next five years but he was unable to achieve those targets. As a matter of fact, he was never close to achieving those targets.

The Danish player finishes his career with a few major honours. He won the Italian Serie A title with Juventus, the German Cup with VFL Wolfsburg and two Norwegian titles. He spent several years as an Arsenal player but didn't win anything in North London.
