Wolfsburg manager Dieter Hecking feels that striker Nicklas Bendtner will have extra motivation to perform well against Everton given that they are an English club.
The 26-year-old striker spent almost a decade in English football with the likes of Arsenal, Sunderland, and Birmingham City. However, the difficult period recently came to an end after the striker moved to Wolfsburg in the summer. He has been in relatively good form, but goals continue to evade him. He recently ended the goal drought by scoring two againstFC Krasnodar in the Europa league.
This appeared to motivate him and he recently scored his first goal in the Bundesliga against Schalke, although this match ended in a defeat. The poor performances have meant that Bendtner is not the first choice striker at Wolfsburg, who have been surprise challengers for the Bundesliga title this season. In order to keep the theme fresh,Hecking may decide to rotate for the Europa league clash against Everton. Bendtner is likely to start which would be his first against an English opposition in a long time.Hecking says that he would not be surprised if Bendtner was one fire against Everton just because of the team’s location.
This match will be an opportunity for Wolfsburg to get revenge for the 4-1 defeat suffered in the reverse fixture. "If that is his motivation, then I am expecting he will be on fire tomorrow, yes,” said Hecking.“To try to win is the only approach we have.We had a really good game at Goodison against Wolfsburg, although the scoreline did not reflect the amount of chances both teams had.We massively respect Wolfsburg and know how well they have done,” said Hecking’s counterpart Roberto Martinez in his pre-match press conference. Wolfsburg are against Borussia Mönchengladbach as they return to league action during the weekend.
