Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos is hopeful that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will put pen-to-paper on a new deal with the club. The Gabon international has only 12 months remaining on his contract with the north London giants and so far, there has not been any progress in terms of the renewal.
The former Borussia Dortmund star has netted 63 goals from 101 appearances for the Gunners. He recently bagged his 50th Premier League goal for the club and became the fastest ever to do so ahead of club legends Thierry Henry and Ian Wright. As such, he has definitely made a mark on the club’s history during a short space of time and it remains to be seen whether he can be convinced to stay put for the long-term.
Despite turning 31, Aubameyang continues to play at the peak of his powers and the Gunners will be hoping that they can strike a contract extension before the end of the season. Otherwise, there is a good chance that he could head for the exit door. The 31-year-old won’t be short of offers with Barcelona, Inter Milan and Juventus among those monitoring his situation.
Arsenal have recently bagged three successive wins across all competitions. They are scheduled to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on the road during the forthcoming contest. The north Londoners have failed to beat Nuno’s men for three games on the bounce. They have picked up just two points in the process.
