Arsenal legend Tony Adams has said that Manchester United were there for the taking and the Gunners were probably unlucky to come out without three points at Old Trafford. The Gunners had been fancied to end their 12-year wait for a league win at United but their defensive mistakes ensured that the hosts recovered from deficits twice on two occasions to register a 2-2 draw.
Speaking after the match, Adams admitted that there were errors on the defensive side from either team but the visitors should have some sense of disappointment with the final outcome, he told BT Sport: “A catalogue of errors from both teams. I think Arsenal are a little bit unlucky for me not to come away with all three points. Man United were there for the taking for me today. But 20 games undefeated Arsenal, happy days.”
Meanwhile, “United legend Rio Ferdinand had a different view to the game and suggested that the game was even-sided “with neither team managing to gain a distinct advantage, he said: “I agree both defences were suspect at times in the game. I think David De Gea recovered from the mistake he made in the first half and kept Man United in it towards the end. “Both teams huffed and
“puffed without too much“ quality on show today.”
With the stalemate, the Gunners have dropped to fifth on the table but they are only behind the final Champions League spot on goal difference after Chelsea suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers. On the other hand, United are lying in the eighth position after the opening 15 matches and they are already 10 points behind the top-four which should realistically remain the aim for the rest of the campaign. Arsenal are scheduled to host Huddersfield Town on Saturday while United welcome Fulham at the same period.
